This is just a kind reminder
Focus on important few…
– Seth Godin
This idea is not new, but Seth Godin called it very simple in one of his podcasts and it stuck with me so much.
It’s short.
It’s simple.
It’s enough.
In the IT and management area, we use 80/20 or 90/10 rules, which simply means more or less the same.
For an example:
-
80% of work is done by 20% of people.
-
10% of tests may cover 90% of code, but the last 10% may require 90% of time.
-
The latest 10% of any project usually consumes 90% of time or money.
There is always plenty of things to do. Gazzilion of ideas, bugs, potential improvements.
With the limited resources like:
- time,
- space,
- money,
- or energy we need to focus on important few things that will make the biggest impact on our project in mind.
It can be a software project.
It can be a home renovation project.
It can be any life project.
We are not able to DO IT ALL… AT ONCE
… but we can focus on a few important things each day to take a step toward our goal, our North Star, or whatever you want to call it.
So… FOCUS
Focus on important few…
…today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year.
I was amazed many times how it works for me, for my team, my family, my projects and reduces anxiety of being overwhelmed with all the stuff (that we often believe) needs to be done.
Just one thing today. One thing tomorrow.
That’s it. That’s enough.
You are making a progress.
